Abstract: The circumstances in contemporary society have created new conditions for how the organising and legitimising of contemporary 'knowledge workers' develop. It seems like the today's practice and expertise of knowledge workers is hard to comprehend in studies merely based in the prevailing theory of professions. In this paper the epistemic practice of investment banks is analysed, showing how the knowledge of finance, divided between expert categories, becomes linked again – in practice.

Keywords: epistemic practice; knowledge workers; investment banks; the machinery of financial practice.
